John W. McKenzie

John received his undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University and his law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.  John joined Kastner Westman & Wilkins LLC as a partner in April 2001 after practicing for several years at a large Akron based law firm where he was a shareholder.  His practice has focused exclusively on labor and employment matters.

John represents management in employment/discrimination-related litigation before state and federal courts and government administrative agencies, in traditional labor law matters/grievance arbitrations, as well as in employment contract and non-competition matters.  John devotes significant time to counseling employers on FLSA/wage hour matters, the ADA, FMLA, and employee handbook issues.  His clients hail from both the private and public sectors.

Prior to attending law school, John held the positions of Senior Operations Analyst and Personnel Officer with First Union National Bank (now Wachovia) in Charlotte, North Carolina. There he was responsible for the recruitment of professional personnel and management of employee relations issues for six bank divisions.

John is admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court of Ohio, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. John is a member of the American Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association and Akron Bar Association, and is past chairman of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the Akron Bar Association.
