Tom is a magna cum laude graduate of Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University. While at Cleveland-Marshall, Tom was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Law & Health. Tom's article regarding the application of the Americans With Disabilities Act to athletic competitors, Lessons From Martin: The ADA And Athletics Don't Mix, was published by the Journal of Law & Health. A native of the Mahoning Valley, Tom earned his undergraduate degree in Secondary Education from Youngstown State University.
Tom has spent his entire legal career representing public and private sector employers in all aspects of labor and employment law. Tom has litigated employment discrimination, employee benefits, employment contract, non-compete, FMLA, and other employment-related claims in federal and state trial courts, and in the Ohio Court of Appeals and other state and federal appellate courts. In addition, Tom has represented employers in labor arbitrations and negotiations, and before various federal and state administrative agencies, including the EEOC, OCRC, NLRB, SERB, SPBR and the Industrial Commission of Ohio. Tom spends much of his time providing day-to-day counseling to employers in such areas as wage/hour law, discipline and discharge, and labor agreement and employment policy administration.
Tom is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Ohio, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio. In 2008, Tom was appointed to the Executive Board of the Labor and Employment Relations Association, Northeast Ohio Chapter; and is a member of the American, Ohio State and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations; and the Fairlawn Chamber of Commerce.
