OSBA-Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation Law
Early in life Mike knew he was destined to be an attorney. He was driven by a desire for fairness and equality, and was drawn to the process needed to resolve disputes so that everyone felt like they got a “square deal.”
While in law school Mike worked as a hearing representative for a Third Party Administrator, which is what fueled the direction his professional career would ultimately take. Since then, he has practiced workers’ compensation and employment law for over 20 years. Throughout that time Mike has defended employers at over 10,000 workers’ compensation hearings, successfully arguing cases at every Industrial Commission office in Ohio.
In addition, Mike has defended numerous VSSR claims and has been active in both the investigative phase and hearing phase, and has litigated VSSR issues to the Supreme Court of Ohio. Mike has successfully litigated workers’ compensation cases at jury trials, in various Courts of Appeals, in Mandamus actions in the 10th District Court of Appeals, and before the Supreme Court.
During law school Mike won the F. Lee Bailey national Moot Court competition in Florida and was judged by F. Lee Bailey himself to have given the best oral argument at the competition. Years later, in 1998, Mike was among the first class of attorneys to become Certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a Specialist in Workers’ Compensation, a designation he has held ever since.
